I’ve been gigging in London as Pianoman since 2007 and I’m resident performer at Piano Kensington every Wednesday evening. My work takes me around the world and wherever I’m performing – chateaux, clubs and living rooms for all sorts of occasions from weddings and corporate events to private parties – the one thing that always remains true is seeing a room of people enjoy themselves through music.
Interpreting other people’s songs is a huge passion and I love to surprise an audience by interweaving unlikely combinations of songs, mashing up something like The Black Eyed Peas ‘I Got a Feeling’ with Nina Simone’s ‘Feeing Good’.
Certain songs are represented by moments in time and I’ve had the opportunity to be the voice to express these. When ‘Hallelujah’ re-emerged into the public consciousness, I remember one packed Friday night silencing the entire room at Piano Kensington except for the (mildy drunken!) sing-a-long chorale during the chorus. Powerful stuff.
I’ve been asked if I ever get bored singing the same songs, but having the chance to perform ‘Your Song’ for the umpteenth time is only ever a pleasure, kind of like hanging out with your best mate!
