A Little Bit Of Update

 Thursday October 20th, 2011

  A big thanks from me!

It seems we've had a few more weeks of summer, not bad for October eh? Four weeks have passed since the 'A Little Bit of Summer' concert at The Bedford, what a night we had! Amazingly, we sold every single one of our 200 tickets (the last one went at around 1am on the morning of the show!) and it was great to see our packed house made up of kids, mums, dads, aunties, uncles, lots of friends and new faces. Great job people! Thanks to all of you, I was delighted to hand over £3360 to PCMT as a total of tickets sales, raffle money and additional donations. Family and friends of the trust were thrilled by this sum.

Archie and Nick   The Overtones   The Stowaways

Personally, I want to say a massive thanks to our host Kylie and all the artists, that's Archie, Jen, Paul, Mike, The Overtones and The Stowaways for putting on such a great show and bringing the room to fever pitch. Sharing the stage with this talent and enthusiasm is a pleasure for me and a great way to celebrate Pete.

Paul   Jen   Nick and Mike

I've had loads of wonderful feedback from everyone that took part about how brilliant the atmosphere was and how they loved performing for such a great cause. One of the funny things, from the artists' point of view, is that, due to stage lights, we can hardly see past the front row of faces in the audience. But by the end of the show, I was very aware of the collective joy in the room and certainly could see all the 'hands in the air' during the penultimate song 'We are the champions' (which I recently heard was voted the most sing-a-long song ever… good choice eh?).

I'll be posting some choice clips from the show, so keep your ears and eyes peeled here and on Facebook. If you have any pics from the night please do email them over to me.

Love Nickx

A very special announcement!

September's arrived, but wondering where the sunshine's gone? Well fear not, it's here in the shape of 'A Little Bit of Summer' and I'm proud and excited to announce the latest guests heating up the stage with us on September 18th.

The OvertonesThe Overtones, the UK's hottest vocal group, have joined the line up for our show. Unless you've been living under a rock for the last year, you'll be familiar with this talented fivesome whose spin on vintage pop has propelled them to major success. We're very lucky to have them for the evening since they're about to embark on their second sell out UK and Ireland tour on the back of their platinum top 5 album 'Good Ol' Fashioned Love'. I was chatting with lead singer Timmy yesterday who said that they are delighted to be appearing on the 18th and supporting PCMT. Need I say more?

So come and enjoy all the musical talents of Archie Carmichael, Jenifer Leahey, Paul Whitaker, Mike Reeve (that's my brother!), The Stowaways, The Overtones and myself on what's promising to be a top night for a great cause.

Tickets are available now! Details from the box office.

Cheers, Nick

Things are hotting up!

Nick ReeveJust three Sundays to go until 'A Little Bit of Summer' and crucial show decisions are being made. Archie came over this week with a list of song suggestions, some fitted like a glove and others we thought would work didn't seem to. But, after a little online research, I reckon we've now come up with the perfect songs for his silky-soul voice.

Now I just need to decide what I'm going to sing. At each of my regular Pianoman gigs I seem to be auditioning songs for the show, thinking 'hmm, his would be a good one'. So many great songs to choose from, what a great job! Aside from rehearsing classic songs, I've been getting a bit creative and will be performing a few of my originals on the night too. Surprise surprise, you'll hear a new take on my very own 'A Little Bit of Summer'.

Peter CulverhouseI'm very proud to be supporting The Peter Culverhouse Memorial Trust, which is named after one of my best friends who died in 2003 at the age of 31 from a brain tumour. Peter and I grew up together as neighbours and spent most of our youth together. His parents and friends set up this charitable trust in his memory to raise money for research into brain tumours and to help finance care for terminally ill cancer patients. In last 8 years over £50,000 has been raised from various fundraising events including our 2 previous concerts, and by once again celebrating Pete's memory we'll help continue funding this essential research and care. Thank you!

A Little Bit Of Summer ticketsIf you're planning to come and join us on this special evening, tickets are on sale here and selling well so far. It's going to be a great night, why not bring a few friends? If you can't make it this time and would like to show your support, you can also donate here and your money will go directly to the trust.

On Thursday 1st September I'll reveal the full artist line up, just finalising a few last details and arrangements. Catch you then!

Cheers

Hi there! This week we've been getting underway and songs are being tried and tested. What a pleasure it is to get the creative juices flowing with these talented and generous artists. [Gulp!] suddenly I realise it's only 4 more Sundays to go until the show.

Feisty and soulful Jen Leahey, who has performed at both previous Nick Reeve Music charity shows (who can forget her showstopping version of 'Mercy' in 2009?), came over this week and spent a few hours round the piano putting her unique stamp on some great song choices.

Who else is on the bill? Here's a little preview of 2 of our amazing acts –

See The Stowaways "Lines" on YouTube   The Stowaways are back! This fantastic London based four piece band continue to wow everyone with their Beatles/Kings of Leon influenced sound. Check out their latest video 'Lines', excellent work guys!

Also hot off the press, Cassidy Jansen (CJ to me…), West End star of Wicked, Avenue Q and Lend Me A Tenor, called me up on Tuesday to confirm that she is on board! Her voice is a spectacular sound to behold; think Barbra Streisand and you won't be far wrong. To see what I mean listen to this beautiful recording of 'When I close my eyes'. Can't wait to meet up with her next week.

So come and spend an exciting evening of music with us all on September 18th at The Bedford and also support a special charity. It's a chance to do something completely unique on a Sunday night, beats 'Antiques Roadshow' right?

Remember tickets are only available in advance – time to get yours now?

More news soon!

Coming soon – A Little Bit Of Summer

Hey, we're live again!

On a sunny summer's day back in 2002 I was strolling through the ever vibrant Brixton market in an upbeat mood. A gentle breeze masked the intensity of the sun and a cacophony sounded all around as traders and customers bartered for yams, fish, cooking pots and washing powder. Without any warning, a melody popped into my head and I found myself humming something which after a quick return home to my piano became a favourite new song – 'A Little Bit of Summer'.

In 2007 and again in 2009, Nick Reeve Music staged charity concerts in aid of the Peter Culverhouse Memorial Trust after my good friend Peter who died of a brain tumour in 2003. Each sold out show brought together a wonderful mix of artists, donating their time and talents to this cause and our audiences lapped up every minute. 'A Little Bit of Summer' was a highlight at both events; the message being, look for the good in our everyday lives, 'this summer feeling, gives my days an upbeat meaning…'.

It's 2011 and I'm proud to announce that 'A Little Bit of Summer' is our third charity concert and will soon be heading your way! The show will take place on Sunday 18th September, three days before the end of summer, in the Shakespeare Globe Theatre at The Bedford in Balham, SW London. Doors open at 5pm and the show will start at 6pm, finishing by 9pm.

'A Little Bit of Summer' will include another fantastic line up of artists performing originals and some of your best loved classics inspired by the show's title. As ever, almost every penny raised will go directly to the PCMT which supports The Princess Alice Hospice and research into brain tumours. Expect the roof to be raised for a third time!

We're asking for minimum ticket donations of £15 for each adult and £20 for a combined adult and child. Children under 16 are very welcome but each child must be accompanied by an adult as our show will be held in a private space within a pub which requires that children are chaperoned at all times whilst on the premises.

'Who's performing?' I hear you ask… well, this little nugget is going to stay secret for now, but tickets are on sale from today in our online shop. With only 200 tickets available, and bearing in mind we sold out on both previous occasions, you'll want to buy soon to avoid disappointment.

 Pianoman adventures, new tracks

So summer has arrived. Let's hope we have a lot of it this year!

It's been ages since I have done a mail out and I thought the time was right just to bring you all up to speed with what's been going on in my musical world. The last year has been filled with Pianoman gigs, mostly London based but I have travelled further afield in UK and Europe. Weddings, private parties and pianobars, through sunshine, rain and snow storms….. it's been a blast! And what I have seen from the questionable safety of my piano is nobody's business. Although, what I see generally becomes everyone's business. If the Pianoman work dries up, I swear I have a career in crowd control.

My audiences have been wonderful and diverse from Lady Gaga (almost, but more Lord than Lady on closer inspection… not that close!) to packs of Hens out on the town, to reacquainted friends from all over the world thanks to Facebook, to family (Mum and Dad ought to own shares in Piano Kensington…. ). There is a lot to be said for seeing familiar faces rock up. Not to mention sharing the stage with the occasional celebrity guests, my favourite being my good friends The Overtones.

You can find me at either Piano Kensington on a Wednesday or Piano Soho most Saturdays, check out the details on the NRM website 'Live' page. I now also have a Facebook page which I update almost weekly with gigs etc, so click 'LIKE' and get involved.

I've added a couple of new recordings to the NRM media player; an original 'Stand So Tall' and 'Empire State of New York (New York)'….. a mini Glee-style mashup, Frank vs Alicia, that has proved to be one of my most popular Pianoman moments.

Plus are you getting fit for the summer? Maybe I can help as I'm now involved in fitness music with 'rowing2music'. Clicking the cover takes you to the iTunes store where you can find my 2 'Catch the Groove' albums which are virtual training sessions for indoor rowing. It's all explained there. Give it a go and challenge yourself.

Ciao for now! Nick

Treat Yourself, buy the first Poptron album
We’re happy to announce, Poptron – Treat Yourself is now available to download here.

Over the last 2 years Nick’s been working on a sideline electropop project that’s progressed from one solo song to a collaborative 12 track album! ‘Treat Yourself’ comes out under the Poptron name that fuses pop with electronic influences and went down so well recently at ‘Request Show’.

Hi there everyone,

I’ve always loved soulful electronic music as this was the first style that really struck a chord for me. This album veers from deep electro dance beats and powerful vocals to intimate chilled acoustic moments that, in my dream world, wouldn’t be out of place on a Kate Bush album!

The inspiration for ‘Treat Yourself’ comes from living in the big bold city of London, it’s all quite abstract but hopefully evokes a sense of this metropolis – familiar and alien, ugly and beautiful, frenetic and intimate, hi-tech and traditional, love and loss, isolated and overcrowded….

On the album you’ll find Timmy Matley (lead singer from the awesome and sexy ‘Lexi Joe’), Diane Charlemagne (international soul singing sensation), Grace Vallorani (voice performer) and Tony Ambrosca (the multi-talented).

‘Treat Yourself’ is available to download today for only £3 and since you’re the first people to be able to buy this I’ve decided to include 2 fantastic remixes by DJ Slamma and John EV! That’s right, 14 tracks, officially a special edition with over an hour of brand spanking new music for £3…..!!!

Poptron has been a slow burning labour of love and I’m thrilled that it’s finished; in a slightly organic fashion, it’s come from not really knowing where I was going until I got there. Well here I am!

Hope you enjoy the music and dare I say it…… ‘Treat Yourself’!!!!

Nick reeve, august 2009

Cheers, Nickx

Request Show – What a night!

 Thursday June 4th, 2009

  Hi there,

Well what a show we had! The Request Show was a special night and Sunday May 17th at The Bedford certainly was the place to be. We took on many of your requests and also treated you to exciting new material from Lexi Joe, the Stowaways and my new project Poptron. I can tell you that everyone who took part had a blast, we made new friends, shared great music and gave our best performances.

Lexi Joe, Request Show May 2009

The night was a sell out and we raised £3000 which is being shared between The Peter Culverhouse Memorial Trust and Annie Lennox Sing Campaign. So a big thank you to everyone who came along and supported the evening.

Request Show May 2009

I would like to once again thank all the amazing artists who dedicated their talents, time and passion to the show. So thank you to…. Archie Carmichael, Tony Bedewi, Diane Charlemagne, Timmy Matley, Jennifer Leahey, Mike Reeve, The Stowaways (Jamie, Stevie, Stephen and Rudi…..great to have met you guys!), Lexi Joe (Mike, Mark, Darren and Timmy), Poptron (Timmy, Diane, Tony and me…!) and also to the wonderful and pregnant Kylie for hosting the evening! I must admit the following week felt quite flat having spent the last couple of months working with this dynamic bunch. But you never know, we may be back one day!

In the meantime, if you’re hankering to relive it, I’ve put together just a few of the evening’s highlights on our media player, including the Request Show crew performing ‘Relight My Fire’ and the finale number, ‘Let It Be/Hey Jude’.

Cheers
